Have you ever wondered what your last name means? Or why you have a last name? Well, if you are Jewish and your ancestors are from Europe, it�s because between the 1800-1900�s the government made Jews buy last names. Names like Goldberg (mountain of gold) were given to the rich, but for those who couldn�t afford names, they were given names like Eselkopf (ass�s head) or Fischbaum (fish tree).
